Harper, who is well-known to audiences for his breakout role in The Good Place, is the perfect replacement for Kendrick as the protagonist of Season 2. Kendrick, who is one of the show’s executive producers, is expected to make at least one cameo in the new season. What: Along with Scream, I Know What You Did Last Summer was one of the biggest horror movies of the ‘90s.
Starring Jennifer Love Hewitt, Ryan Phillipe, Freddie Prinze Jr and Sarah Michelle Gellar, it spawned two sequels and now a brand new TV series. The original movie’s premise was simple - after an accident on a winding road, four teens make the fatal mistake of dumping their victim’s body into the sea. But exactly one year later, a mysterious fisherman begins stalking the friends. The film was based on the book by Lois Duncan, who told RoseEtta Stone she was “appalled” that her young-adult fiction book was turned into a slasher film. “As the mother of a murdered child, I don’t find violent death something to squeal and giggle about,” she said.
The new TV series takes the slasher premise of the original and elevates it both a gore-fest and a sex-fest. Clearly inspired by Euphoria, the teens of the new I Know What You Did Last Summer are sexually liberated. Leading the group of teens are twin sisters Allison and Lennon (both played by Madison Iseman). The events of “last summer” are revealed to us in flashbacks and the spooky stalking of the involved teenagers occurs pretty quickly. Sitting somewhere between Pretty Little Liars and Euphoria, the TV version of I Know What You Did Last Summer doesn’t quite live up to the cult status of the original but is still a fun, compelling ride.
